Notes
from talks
Preparation
It's
easier
if
you
prepare
beforehand.
Learn
the
main
names
or
words
of
the
subject.
It's
easier
if
you
know
the key
terms.
Listening
You
should
listen
carefully.
That
is,
you
should
do
the
following:
- Pay
attention
to
what
the
speaker
is
saying.
- Think
about
what
is
being
said.
- Follow
the
subject
of
the
talk.
- Don't
just
sit
back
and
let
the
words
wash
over
you.
Watching
Watch
out
for
any
visual
signals
or
clues.
Most
teachers
will
emphasise
important
points.
Pay
special
attention
to
the
introduction.
The
teacher
will
say
what
subject
is
going
to
be
covered.
Writing
You
should
write
down
the
main
points
of
the
talk.
Don't
try
to
write
down
everything.
Listen
carefully
to
what
the
speaker
is
saying.
Wait
until
the
key
points
or
the
main
ideas
are
expressed.
Write
down
these,
not
the
details
that
surround
them.
Layout
You
should
reproduce
the shape of
the
talk.
Use
good page
layout,
lists,
and headings.
Use
big
margins
and
plenty
of
white
space.
Reviewing
Check
your
notes
straight
after
the
talk.
All
the
information
should
still
be
fresh
in
your
mind.
Some
students
even
re-write
their
notes!
You
can
correct
details,
and
emphasise
the
main
arguments.
Check
that
the structure is
made
clear. |
