Green bullet Almost all words have only one correct spelling.

Green bullet You can learn spelling by reading and writing as much as possible.

Green bullet The best way to improve your spelling is to:

  • learn the common rules of spelling
  • learn commonly mis-spelt words
  • practise spelling strategies

EXAMPLES

  • Some words sound the same, but have different spellings - such as there and their. These are called homophones
  • Some words look the same, but have different meanings - such as pike (fish) and pike (staff). These are called homographs.
  • Some words can be spelled in more than one way - such as judgement and judgment.
