Almost
all words have only one correct spelling.
You
can learn spelling by reading and writing as much as possible.
The
best way to improve your spelling is to:
- learn the common rules of spelling
- learn commonly mis-spelt words
- practise spelling strategies
EXAMPLES
- Some words sound the same, but have different spellings
- such as there and their. These are called homophones
- Some words look the same, but have different meanings
- such as pike (fish) and pike (staff). These
are called homographs.
- Some words can be spelled in more than one way - such as judgement and judgment.
USE
It
will help you to spell words if you can see their structure.
Spelling
is a complex issue in English - because our language is made up
of words from different countries.
You
can improve your spelling by making friends with a good dictionary.
