Based at the Shakespeare Centre in Stratford-upon -Avon, The Shakespeare
Birthplace Trust is a registered charity, which maintains the five houses that
are connected with Shakespeare and his family. The website contains a summary
of its aims, one of which is 'to promote an appreciation of Shakespeare's works'.
As would be expected, the site contains a great deal of information
about Shakespeare's life and works and his connection with Stratford.
However, perhaps surprisingly, it also addresses the authorship
question, devoting a page to the subject and to the most popular
alternative candidates.
Clearly, this site supports the authorship of William Shakespeare
and argues that there is 'a mass of evidence' that confirms him
as the legitimate author. It looks at the various arguments in
favour of other candidates but emphasizes that, for any author
other than Shakespeare to have written the works, the ensuing concealment
can only have been the result of a conspiracy.
However, as the authors of this site point out, 'it is in the
nature of conspiracy theories that they can neither be proved nor
disproved'. This is a professional site covering many aspects of
Shakespeare's life and defending his authorship
