It is easier to find literature and websites which challenge the belief
that the William Shakespeare, the actor from Stratford, was the man responsible
for the literature which is accredited to him, than it is to find those which
defend his authorship.
This is because many professional Shakespearean scholars do not
accept that there is any doubt or case to answer. This website
then, is unusual in the way in which it examines the claims of
those who support other candidatures, particularly the Oxfordians,
and addresses them directly.
The work of Dave Kathman and Terry Ross, it is another site with
a clearly stated aim, being 'dedicated to the proposition that
Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare'. Its intended audience is the 'intelligent
non-specialist' who is interested in the subject, yet does not
know how to evaluate the various claims and 'evidence' offered
by anti-Stratfordians.
One by one, Kathman and Ross examine these claims and, by reference
to an extensive range of letters, articles and essays, citing undisputed
facts wherever possible, seek to disprove them. This is an extensive
and academic site which explains the background to the authorship
debate whilst seeking to show why a debate should no longer exist.
