This is the official website of the Oxford Society; a group of people
whose aim is to 'document and establish Edward de Vere as the universally recognised
author of the works of William Shakespeare'.
From the first paragraph, the perspective of the authors is
made clear and the reader is, therefore, not surprised to find
that the factors put forward and discussed within the site are
those that enhance the case of Edward de Vere.
The site offers a 'Beginners Guide' to the authorship question,
which is well set out and contains much interesting material. There
is also a guide to the history of the debate and a list of famous
doubters in the amusingly titled 'Honour Roll of Sceptics'.
There is a discussion of the mystery surrounding the portrait
shown here which was thought to be of Shakespeare. According to
the society, it has since been discovered that all is not quite
as it seems!
Much of the evidence offered by the authors is open to doubt.
However, the site is well written, the arguments are coherent,
and it provides lots of useful material concerning the period of
Shakespeare's life. It sets out in detail the case for Edward de
Vere as the author of the plays.
