Definition
Autobiography
means a record of someone's life, written by that person.
A biography of
that person would be written by somebody else.
It's
a word made from three other words - all Greek.
'Auto'
(self) + 'bios (life) + graphein (to write).
An
autobiography doesn't have to be a complete record. It might
just cover part of the writer's life.
EXAMPLES
- Laurie Lee's Cider with Rosie
- Anne Frank's The Diary of Anne Frank
- Stephen Fry's Moab is my Washpot
USE
The
events of an autobiography are normally retold in the order that
they happened.
In
other words, they are told in chronological order.
They
are normally told in the past tense.
The
author usually uses "I" - the first person pronoun
The
difference between autobiography and fiction is
that the characters are real people, and the events really happened.
Autobiographies
are often interesting because the authors reveal their true feelings
and tell us about events from their own point
of view.
You
feel like you get to know the author like a close friend.
